Music anyone? [16 Sep 2009|03:39am]

I'd also love to hear what everyone is listening to nowadays.

I feel like my music taste hasn't changed much in the past 5 years or so.

Bands I still listen to from high school include Rilo Kiley (always in my heart), The Weakerthans, Ted Leo and the Pharmacists, The Shins, Sufjan Stevens, Wilco, etc.

Music that I started listening to in the beginning of college that is still heavily rotated on my playlists include Andrew Bird, Beirut, and Jamie Lidell.

My lastest downloads are from The Antlers, The XX, and the latest releases from Tortoise, Why?, and Grizzly Bear.

What have you been listening to/still listen to?

And if anyone is on last.fm please post a link and maybe we can check out some new music.

Every once in a while I remember livejournal. When I do, I try to post something here.

I spent the summer in Los Angeles working. One of my favorite parts of the city had to be the abundance of art museums. While the charm and unique collections of the smaller ones ranked among my favorites, one piece from the massive Los Angeles County Museum of Art stands out in my memory.

Currently, there's an exhibit called Your Bright Future: 12 Contemporary Artists from Korea, featuring none other but contemporary artists from Korea. If you scroll to the right on their website you can check out most of the exhibit online.

One piece that I really enjoyed but is not listed on the site is Gimhongsok's Public Blank. It's a satirical piece on a utopian society made up of a series of prints with accompanying texts, each explaining one element of the proposed utopia. Gimhongsok suggests things such as a literal path to glory, an isolation tower where people can gather to be in solitude, and a Liberation Square that is voted upon by the community and only declared "Liberation Square" if 2/3 of those surveyed agree they feel liberated in that square.

One example is the Tower of EthicsCollapse )

It's getting warmer here. Warmer weather makes me feel nostalgic. How about you?

My boyfriend and I are re-doing the bathroom after our room mate moves out. Everything is black and white. We have a poster above the toilet of "The Black Dahlia" [the newer one] and it's coming down A. It's creepy and B. It's our room mate's. We don't know what to replace it with. I was thinking something classic. Some old movie with a black and white poster. The trouble is, I can't think of one! It doesn't have to be bathroom themed or anything, just black and white.
